A revolutionary new ice lolly has been unveiled for the start of summer - to put the freeze on women's morning sickness.
The all-natural Lillipop could signal the end of expecting mums starting the day with terrible nausea, dehydration and loss of appetite during pregnancy. Denise Soden, 38, dreamt up the new icy treat after suffering a severe version of morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum during her first pregnancy in 1997.
And the Watford mum-of-three said the new invention was a tried and tested Married Denise, who is mum to Lilly, two, Oliver, four, and Ben, 11, admitted it was her own problem pregnancy that sparked the idea for the lollies.
She said: 'I suffered a lot when I was expecting Ben, it was a real nightmare time. It was so bad I waited seven years before I had my next child. 'The hyperemesis gravidarum saw me being sick about 2,500 times, I lost three stone in weight I was a complete mess'.
'It was halfway through that pregnancy I discovered that for some reason ice helped When I fell pregnant with Lilly in February 2006 I was terrified of becoming ill while I had to look after two children. I remembered the ice trick and so tried mixing up a few simple lollies which worked'.
'When women are pregnant their tastebuds are heightened so when it came to coming up with the flavours for these we had to make sure they were quite subtle. I actually named the lollies after Lilly because I was with her when I came up with the idea.'
The ice pops come in varieties that would look at home in any ice-cream van freezer, including ginger - a well-known cure for nausea - lemon and mint, grapefruit and tangerine and lime and vanilla.
And the carefully-crafted recipes for the ices are totally free from artificial colourings and flavourings. Product testing shows they ease nausea and heartburn, alleviate dry mouth and help provide energy for mums.
The Lillipops cost 6.25 for a box of 20 and are being sold through Denise's website, www.lillipops.com. Around eight out ten British expectant mothers suffer from morning sickness and effects women differently from case to case.
Some may only feel mildly queasy when they wake up, where others - like Denise - have the severe hyperemesis gravidarum. This illness sees mothers vomiting many times a day, unable to eat and drink without being sick and can lead to nutrition issues for the mother and growing baby, severe weight loss and deyhdration.
Denise said: 'We have had some extraordinary responses to the lollies.'
